learning online ads to survive as a small business owner

As I’m operating my small business, I’m realizing that Google Ad Words, SEO, Facebook ads, and Analytics Tagging skills are very high in demand. I often look for experts to help me run my digital campaigns, but the result is always the same.

It’s impossible to identify the right talent or a company to help me at my budget. Experienced experts would charge me an arm and a leg. And I couldn’t even think about hiring a company to help me with it.

I felt helpless and useless and instead of confronting the issue head on, I ignored it and moved on to the next item on my list.

Why didn’t I take the time to properly learn these platforms and run small tests myself?

I’m not exactly sure, but if I had to take a guess, it was the result of my paralyzing mindset that everything that was consumer facing had to be done by an expert.

After spending a decade in corporate life, relying on subject matter experts on anything and everything seemed like the right thing to do.

Why was I so stubborn and stupid? Why didn’t I just take advantage of what the internet had to offer and learn the skills myself?

If I can’t afford to hire someone for these skills, I need to roll up my sleeves, learn, and execute. Continuously learn and experiment until I identify a method that works for me.

Many say that it’s better to hire an expert than to learn yourself, but if you don’t have the funds, or if they are way out of reach, then maybe, conventional wisdom doesn’t apply.

I can’t help but to feel like an idiot right now for not trying to learn in the past, but better late than never.

With that said, I’m going to make it my mission to acquire these skills and will document what I learned and how I applied them.

For starters, here is priority list

  1. Google Adwords
  2. Facebook Ads
  3. Amazon Ads
